DOCTORS CALL MY SURVIVAL A MIRACLE
Alexander from Michigan

" In 1978 I was sitting in my office when I suddenly had a horrible shooting pain in my abdomen. When I reached the hospital, it was determined that I was bleeding internally. The doctor told my wife, "Your husband's condition is very critical, and he may not have long to live. He's losing too much blood!" She immediately called the Abundant Life Prayer Group to pray in agreement for my healing. We've been Partners with the Oral Roberts Ministries since 1959 and have always called the prayer line when we had a need.

The doctors decided to perform exploratory surgery to determine the cause of the bleeding, and they found that I had ruptured ulcers and acute pancreatitis. I made it through surgery, and in the weeks following, my wife and relatives called the Prayer Tower many times to pray in agreement for my healing. After days in the intensive care unit and two months in the hospital, I was finally dis-charged. The doctors who cared for me said they had never seen anyone survive what I had gone through. It had to be a miracle.

A few months later, I returned to my job, and I've been healthy ever since. I'm thankful for the many prayers of the Abundant Life Prayer Group on my behalf, and I give all the glory to God.

ON DOCTRINE NOTE:
It is quite a good outcome, that this individual survived what was a life-threatening situation. I am sure that they fervently believe that their outcome was a direct miracle from God. However, the circumstances that they describe bear no relation the the miracles found in the Scripture. Many people survive life-threatening situations similar to and possibly even more severe, and most of the individuals are probably not Christians.

The danger is to attribute an outcome to the invervention of God in the manner of a miracle which trivializes the reality of what God actually does when a miracle is performed. That is the issue in this incident, when the process of the healing is compared with the instantaneous miracle healings and resurrections in the Scripture.

This individual spent several days in process in the hospital prior to having the operation. Then several days in intensive care and at least 60 days in recovery. Then there was an additional 60 days prior to returning to work. In all, this "miracle" took well over 120 days to accomplish. That is not a biblical definition of a miracle.
